Arnos Vale, St. Vincent – April 14, 2017 – The SVG Cricket Association Inc. will once again host yet another regional cricket competition. This time around, on behalf of Cricket West Indies, the SVGCA Inc. will receive the regional’s  top female cricketers, as they call the shores of St. Vincent home for the next two weeks, during their participation in the 2017 Cricket West Indies Senior Women’s Regional Super 50 tournament.

The region’s premier female cricket competition will run from Thursday 20th April to Sunday 30th April, with games being played at the Arnos Vale playing field, Sion Hill playing field and the Park Hill playing field.

Defending champions Trinidad and Tobago will attempt to stave off challenges to their title from Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, the Leeward Islands and the home team, the Windward Islands.

The tournament will feature members of the West Indies World T20 Women’s champion team; including Jamaican Stafanie Taylor, Tremayne Smartt and Shemaine Campbelle of Guyana, Barbadians Deandra Dottin, Kyshona Knight, Kycia Knight, Shontell Connell, Hayley Matthews and Shakera Selman, Merissa Aguilleira, Britney Cooper, Stacy-Ann King and Anisa Mohammed from Trinidad and Tobago and Afy Fletcher from the Windward Islands.

Vincentians Cordel Jack, Julianna Nero, Stacy-Ann Adams and Glendeen Turtin who are members of the Windward Islands team will be an added attraction which is expected to lure the cricket loving fans to the grounds. All of the female cricketers will be eyeing a place on the West Indies team for the 2018 World Cup to be held in the Caribbean.

All six participating teams would have arrived in St. Vincent by Sunday 16th. Following a WICB and WIPA Seminar for the teams on Monday 17th April, the teams will get down to practice sessions scheduled for Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th. A gala opening ceremony is also carded for the evening of Tuesday 18th April at the Spring Gardens Resort.

The first round of matches will see defending champions Trinidad and Tobago clashing with Barbados at the Sion Hill playing field, Leeward Islands taking on Jamaica at Park Hill , while Guyana and Windward Islands square off at the Arnos Vale playing field on Thursday 20th April.

Round two will follow on Saturday 22nd April with Windward Islands meeting Leeward Islands at Park Hill, Trinidad and Tobago taking on Guyana at Sion Hill while Barbados and Jamaica do battle at the Arnos Vale playing field.

In related news, matches in the SVGCA Inc. National Lotteries local cricket competitions will be suspended until the end of the 2017 Cricket West Indies Senior Women’s Regional Super 50 tournament.
