The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc. (SVGCA Inc.) is extremely pleased to collaborate with three prominent organizations to aid with widespread relief needed as we battle the fallout associated with COVID-19 and the explosive eruption of the La Soufriere Volcano.
On Monday, June 14 2021, the SVGCA Inc. donated EC$4,000.00 each to the Rotary Club of St. Vincent, and the Lions Club South. The association also donated EC$2,000.00 to Rise Up O.T.R, which is a group from “Over the River” (North Windward), on the same day.
The president of the SVGCA Inc., Romel Currency, noted the importance of Vincentian people and organizations, at home and abroad, to lead and sustain the humanitarian effort needed to assist our country as we look to return to a place of normalcy.
In relation to the recently concluded Vincy Premier League under the theme, ‘From the Ashes’, President Currency stated:
“I would like to express my profound gratitude to all for their involvement in making VPL 3.0. a success. The VPL is fast becoming a household tournament, with tremendous anticipation from patrons. Spectators have been actively aligning themselves with various teams in the VPL as borne out by the many request for team jerseys. This along with the number of positive responses from our stakeholders suggest the remarkable advancement of the tournament in just one year. Close to 200 persons had direct albeit temporary employment, in addition to the many indirect opportunities created. The SVGCA is pleased to be in a position to help, and will continue to play our part, as our nation strives to rise from the ashes.”
These donations are the most recent part of wider relief effort undertaken by the SVGCA inc. The non-profit organization has also bought and provided relief supplies to a number of affected cricketers and their families bringing the total spend associated with the relief effort thus far to just over EC$23,000.
