Kingstown, St. Vincent – Four young female cricketers have received school equipment from the SVG Cricket Association Inc. as support for their educational development.
The young ladies, Vinisha King, Edelyn Turtin, Samantha Cain, and Isha Williams currently students at the Georgetown Technical Institute were recipients of tools, which would facilitate their continued development.
Manager of the national senior female cricket team, Melisia Lewis, also a teacher at the institution spearheaded the initiative. According to Ms. Lewis, the “programs will run for one year and on successful completion not only will the players have an employable skill but they will gain a Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) certificate.”
The brief handover ceremony was held at the office of the SVG Cricket Association Inc. at Arnos Vale on November 30, 2018. Assistant Secretary and Chairman of the Female Committee, SVGCA Inc., Mr. Cleton Burnett chaired the proceeding, which was also attended by Ms. Lewis and President of the SVGCA Inc., Dr. Kishore Shallow.
Dr. Shallow linked the gesture to the strategic plan, which he explained is all part of the intention of the national cricket association. “As part of our strategy, we continue to invest in the holistic development for our players, both male and female, and in this case, we are particularly proud to invest in our females to support their academic journey while we continue to encourage them to exercise a balanced life off and on the cricket field,” said President Shallow.
Turtin expressed her gratitude on behalf of the ladies, saying that “the tools will help them to be able to participate in the program and assist them with their development.”
The ladies are undertaking courses in electrical installation, plumbing, and furniture making. They will complete the program in 2019.
