Kingstown, St.  Vincent and the Grenadines – 5th July 2016 – St. Vincent and the Grenadines has retained the WINLOTT Inc. Windward Islands Under 19 championship in their backyard. The SVG team led by off spinner Othneil Lewis finished the tournament on 21 points, following an exciting encounter against Grenada in the final round of the tournament. Grenada won first innings and then with a rather late second innings declaration, gave SVG 41 overs to negotiate in order to defend their title. With 3 wickets in hand, time ran out for the Grenadians, which meant triumph and celebrations for the Vincentians.

SVG ended the tournament with 21 points, 6 clear of Grenada and St. Lucia who ended on 15 points each, while Dominica placed last in the tournament with only 9 points, after losing their final match outright to St. Lucia.

There were MVPs for each team; Deon Burton – Dominica, Emmanuel Stewart – Grenada, Shervin George – St. Lucia, and Othneil Lewis – St. Vincent. However, it was the Vincentian skipper who won the overall MVP of the tournament, with his 20 wickets and 149 runs at an average of 50. Stewart received the award for most runs, for his 256 at an average of 64, which included an unbeaten 102 against SVG in the 2nd innings of the final round. Most dismissals was Deon Burton, wicketkeeper of Dominica.

A 14 member team was selected, which will represent the Windward Islands in the upcoming West Indies Under 19 tournament, to be hosted in SVG from the 24th July – 22nd August 2016. The team will be announced in a subsequent release.
