The Winward Islands Super 50 Tournament in Grenada bowled off yesterday, September 29th. In St.Vincent and the Grenadines’ opening encounter, they came head to head with Dominica at La Sagesse.

After being inserted to bat, SVG got off to a dominating start as both openers scored half-centuries. St. Vincent’s innings ended prematurely at the 24-over mark due to continuous rain. The score at this point was 133 without loss, Gidron Pope on 73* off 76 balls (6 fours and 3 sixes) and Desron Maloney on 57 of 68 balls (five 4s and two 6s).

After being assigned a target of 203 in 24 overs by D/L method, Dominica’s continuous loss of wickets proved to be to their detriment. Alick Athanaze’s 73 off 49 balls seemed to be the only hope for his side but was not sufficient enough to out-do the Vincentian bowling attack. Dominica was 166 for 8 in 22.3 overs when the rain returned to end the day’s play. The Nature Isle was 23 runs short of the D/L par score of 189, thus awarding SVG their first victory of the tournament

St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Gidron Pope was awarded the man of the match for his unbeaten 73* off 76 balls.

Today, SVG will face off against St Lucia in their second match of the tournament.
