Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – 1st May 2016 – Former female national cricketer, and SVG senior team assistant coach, Samantha Lynch has been selected to participate in a WICB coaching camp for an ECB Level 3 certificate. The camp will be conducted over two periods in Barbados, 2nd – 8th May 2016 and 1st – 5th June 2016.
The camp is being held following the call by territorial Cricket Associations for improved coaching standards within the Caribbean. Dave Cameron, President of the West Indies Cricket Board has accepted the call to initiate the thrust to strengthening the coaching offered in the Region. The ECB Level 3 is one of the highest certificates in cricket, and is now a prerequisite for coaching at First Class level.
Mrs. Lynch, currently employed in the Sports Department of the Ministry of Sports completed her Level 2 programme in 2004, and will now become the first female in the Caribbean to hold an ECB Level 3 certificate.
President of SVGCA Inc., Kishore Shallow expressed his satisfaction on the opportunity given to the local coach. Mr. Shallow stated, that “it is a wonderful opportunity for Samantha and our local cricket, particularly our females. She is also the Chairperson for our Female Committee and I know this will add some extra springs in her steps in advancing female cricket”. The President added that “Samantha’s selection for this WICB hosted programme is indeed a proactive and strategic move to be in unique position of having the appropriate personnel in the backroom, ahead of an anticipated move by the ICC to have only same-sex head coaches in cricket”.
While there are only a few other Level 2 coaches in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, only the Windward Islands Senior team coach, Ian Allen has an ECB Level 3 certificate.
