Arnos Vale, St. Vincent – August 23, 2017 – Marriaqua and North Leeward came away with positive results on Wednesday when the SVGCA Zonal U15 tournament continued at both the Arnos Vale and Stubbs Playing Fields.
North Leeward defeated North Windward by 50 runs, while Marriaqua had a 27- run win over Kingstown. Marriaqua were indebted to their bowlers for their victory after posting only 71 in their innings off 24.5 overs.
Omarion Ottley, 27 was the topscorer with Devon Peters 11 the only other batsman to get into double figures. Newton Browne 3/7, Romario Laborde 2/6, Ezra Edwards 2/19 and Allison Antoine 2/22 shared the wickets for Kingstown.
Set what appeared an easy target of 72 in forty overs, Kingstown who had won the toss and inserted their opponents, were shot out for 44 in 19.3 overs with six batsmen failing to get off the mark. Orland Gilbert 6/8 was the main destroyer with Akeem Alexander 3/8 lending good backup service.
The Arnos Vale Playing Field saw North Leeward posting their fourth consecutive win behind another good allround team effort.
Winning the toss and taking first use of the square, North Leeward who had to overcome the loss of early wickets, posted a challenging 143 in 30 overs. Jomone Louie 36 and Ojay Mathews 35 were the top batsmen with Shaeem Samuel getting 14. Mathews and Louie shared a 52 run fifth wicket partnership before the former went. Mathews in the process took his competition tally to 228 runs. Elvin Ashton 3/28, Zayshawn Baptiste 2/22 and Shafique May 2/26 were the lead bowlers for North Windward.
North Windward faced with a target of 144 form 40 overs to condemn North Leeward to a first defeat, were dismissed for 93 in 27.1 overs. Aaron Michael15 and Kyle Bowens and Terry Pompey Jr. both with 12 tried to tackle the target but fell short. Mathews took 3/15, Shaeem Samuel 2/13, Claudius Robertson 2/14 and Kirtney Franklyn 2/15 chimed in to share the wickets in dismissing North Windward.
