Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – 17th April 2016 – Three members of SVGCA Inc., President Kishore Shallow, Secretary Samuel Holder, and Committee member Miles Bascombe participated in a two-day workshop hosted by the West Indies Cricket Board. The workshop was held at the Accra hotel in Barbados on the 15th & 16th April 2016, and was geared towards standardizing the way that WICB events are coordinated and executed across the region.
Three main areas were covered (1) event coordinating, (2) match operations, and (3) media/marketing. Shallow, Holder, and Bascombe represented each area respectively. The workshop included specific presentations on event budgeting, risk management, medical arrangements, WICB commercial strategy, venue and sponsorship management, and ticketing and accreditation. Additionally, there were practical exercises on the SWOT analysis of each of the represented associations.
The general feedback from the Vincentian participants was positive. President Shallow commended the WICB on the workshop, which he considered a timely intervention. Shallow expressed “as we gear up to host a number of major events in SVG over the next few months, the lessons learned at the workshop will be indeed useful – we are now bursting with enthusiasm to put into action the knowledge and skills acquired over the two days to execute some international standard events”. Secretary Holder echoed the sentiments of Shallow, indicating “there was a lot new knowledge attained that should definitely help us with our execution for upcoming regional and international matches. Bascombe added “it was a few steps in the right direction. It brought some well-needed perspectives. All stakeholders were made aware of the opportunities as well as their responsibilities in hosting WICB events”.
The facilitators of the workshop comprised WICB officials, namely Ms. Carole Beckford (Manager, Marketing & Corporate Communications), Ms. Nelecia Yeates (Commercial Manager), Mr. Barry Thomas (Chief Financial Officer), Mr. Roland Holder (Operations Manager), and Mr. Paul Slowe (Security Officer).
