Arnos Vale, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – 2nd January 2017 – After a successful 2016 of cricket, the action is set to resume this upcoming weekend. The 2017 season bowls off on Saturday 7th January with an exhibition match between a President XI and National XI. The two teams will contest the Lennox John Cup in a T20 encounter. President Kishore Shallow will lead his team, while Donwell Hector will lead the National XI.

Similar to last year, both teams will be mixed with senior and youth players. For the President XI, Minister of Health, Hon. Luke Browne, who is a former national and Windward Islands youth cricketer will feature, alongside Speaker of the House, Hon. Jomo Thomas. West Indies fast bowler Kesrick Williams will also make his first appearance locally since his successful international campaign.

International and Youth cricketer of the year, Gidron Pope will represent the National XI, which will mark his return to cricket after being out of the game for 4 months with a broken arm.

The match will be played at the Arnos vale One playing field, and commences at 2 p.m. in a festive atmosphere. Following the game, there will be an official ceremony to signal the official opening of the 2017 season.
