Arnos Vale, St. Vincent – August 30, 2017 – Captain Handel Roban led from the front to pilot Central Windward to the 2017 SVGCA Zonal Under 15 title with a five wicket victory over North Leeward in the final of the competition at the main Arnos Vale on Tuesday.

SCORES: North Leeward 67 (21.5 overs), Central Windward 71/5 (17.2 overs).

Central Windward lost the toss and took the field and was fully aware that in the North Leeward line up was Ojay Mathews the tournament ‘s leading runscorer.

Mathews who had scored no less than 25 in any of his previous innings was quickly sent back this time as he was bowled by the impressive Coby Dabreo with the total on 11. The dismissal of Mathews (8) proved a telling blow to the North Leeward cause they lost wickets steadily as the bowlers kept a tight leash on proceedings.

They eventually reached 67 after recovering from 40/8 thanks mainly through the efforts of Cladius Roberts (11).  Kirthey Franklyn (15) was the topscorer.

Dabreo finished with 4/28, Irvin Warrican Jr. 2/9, and Kemani Husbands 2/16.

In reply Central Windward found themselves in early problems and slipped to 20/4 and later 44/5. All this time Roban a tall right-hander held firm mixing defense with a clinical dispatching of the bad balls.

He found an ally in Devante McDowall who displaying a sound defense was not afraid to indulge in attacking himself. McDowall (13*) struck two fours in his 24 ball stay, while Roban (28) counted five fours off the 53 balls he faced.

Franklyn a diminutive pacer finished with 3/16 and Robinson 1/20.

Mathews was the leading runscorer with 263 runs, the top wicket-taker 12, and voted the tournament’s top allrounder.
